Olivia Rodrigo pulls Chappell Roan onto expectations remix

Four years ago Chappell Roan was the opening act. Now she is the guest star. Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan have released a remix of Rodrigo’s “expectations”, the first feature Roan has done on anyone’s record, Universal Music confirmed on Thursday, 15 October.

Roan sings a new second verse, joins Rodrigo on the hook and ad-libs over the outro, Stereogum reported on Friday. Dan Nigro, who has produced for both singers, produced the remix.

And the video is a proper bit of fun. The pair compete on a fake 1980s-style quiz called “The Big Expectations Show”, with David Byrne of Talking Heads as the host.

What is the expectations remix with Chappell Roan?

It is a new version of a track from Rodrigo’s third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, with Roan’s verse in place of the original second verse. Universal Music announced it on Tuesday, 13 October and released it two days later, with limited 7-inch vinyl, CDs and cassettes sold through both artists’ online stores.

The original song came out with the album on Friday, 12 June 2026. Universal says the album opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 485,000 units, which the label calls the biggest solo debut of 2026.

How far back do Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan go?

They go back to Rodrigo’s first tour. Roan opened one show on that 2022 run, sang backing vocals on Rodrigo’s songs “lacy” and “obsessed”, and then opened the first leg of Rodrigo’s Guts World Tour, according to Stereogum. That tour helped push Roan into the mainstream, and later in the tour Roan joined Rodrigo on stage to perform her own “Hot To Go!”. Roan also played Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, California, on 29 August 2026.

So the remix closes a loop. The opener now shares the billing.

Can you stream the expectations remix in Nigeria?

Yes. When GistMatrix searched Apple Music Nigeria at about 8:25pm WAT on Friday, 16 October, it listed “expectations – Single” by Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan, the official music video and the lyric video. The official video is also on Rodrigo’s VEVO channel on YouTube, which works in Nigeria.

What happens next

Rodrigo is on her Unraveled Tour, which Universal says has sold more than a million tickets. Roan’s two-day charity events in Los Angeles, The Super Graphic Spectacular and The Super Graphic Block Party, take place later in October, with net proceeds going to her Midwest Princess Project.
