Brandy to headline Flytime’s House of R&B in Lagos on 20 December

American R&B singer Brandy will headline Flytime’s House of R&B at Eko Convention Centre in Lagos on Sunday, 20 December, Flytime announced this week. Her Lagos concert opens six straight nights of Flytime shows over Detty December.

Flytime founder Cecil Hammond called her one of the most influential voices in R&B, EURweb reported. Her stop in Lagos comes days after shows in Cape Town on 14 December and Pretoria on 17 and 18 December, according to Vanguard.

It also puts a US headliner back on the Flytime bill. The 2025 edition was built around Nigerian acts, with British rapper Central Cee as the main foreign name.

Who is Brandy, and why does the Lagos show matter?

Brandy Norwood is a Grammy-winning singer and actress, nicknamed “The Vocal Bible” by fans, best known for The Boy Is Mine with Monica. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Recording Academy’s Black Music Icon Award, and her memoir Phases reached number one on The New York Times best-seller list, EURweb reported.

For Nigerian fans, it means a 1990s R&B star they grew up on, playing a full headline show at home instead of a festival guest spot.

What is on Flytime’s December 2026 calendar?

Flytime has six nights planned at Eko Convention Centre, Lagos, according to Vanguard and EURweb:

• Sunday, 20 December: House of R&B, headlined by Brandy
• Monday, 21 December: Rhythm Unplugged
• Tuesday, 22 to Thursday, 24 December: Flytime Fest
• Friday, 25 December: Flytime Circle

Flytime chief operating officer Keke Hammond said each of the six nights would have its own identity. No other acts for the December run had been announced as of Saturday evening, 10 October.

Which international stars has Flytime brought to Lagos before?

Flytime has brought big foreign names to the same venue before. Its December events grew out of Rhythm Unplugged, which Cecil Hammond started in 2004, and became the multi-day Flytime Fest in 2018. Published line-ups show the international names:

• 2018: Bobby Brown and Bell Biv DeVoe
• 2019: Megan Thee Stallion and Boyz II Men
• 2020: cancelled because of Covid-19
• 2022: Craig David
• 2024: Gunna, on his African debut
• 2025: British rapper Central Cee, alongside Rema, Davido, Asake, Olamide and Flavour, with several sold-out nights and a top crowd of close to 20,000, EURweb reported

Like Boyz II Men and Bobby Brown before her, Brandy is an R&B name from the 1990s with a long-standing Nigerian fan base.
