Updated 17:53 WAT, 29 Sep 2026: JAMB says its CAPS admissions portal is back online and has reaffirmed its 2026 admission deadlines.
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal, the June–July exam taken by school candidates. The Registrar, Professor Dantani Wushishi, announced the figures at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday, 24 September.
The numbers at a glance
- Registered: 1,378,048 candidates (682,352 male, 695,696 female)
- Sat the exam: 1,371,992
- Five credits and above, including English and Mathematics: 804,948 (58.67%)
- Five credits and above, regardless of English and Mathematics: 1,162,118 (84.70%)
- Candidates involved in malpractice: 1,406, down from 3,878 in 2025
The exam ran from 15 June to 23 July across all 36 states, the FCT and six other countries.
Why does ‘with English and Maths’ matter? Many tertiary programmes ask for five O’level credits including English Language and Mathematics, so the 58.67% figure is the better guide to how many candidates are ready for admission. Requirements vary by course and institution, however, so check JAMB’s brochure and your chosen school’s rules. If you are short of a required subject, a resit in an external (GCE) exam is one route to fill the gap.
How to check your result
- Go to the official portal, results.neco.gov.ng.
- Select 2026 as the year and ‘SSCE INTERNAL (JUN/JUL)’ as the exam type.
- If you do not have a result-checking token, buy one on the portal. Prices can change, so rely on the portal rather than social media posts.
- Enter the token and your NECO registration number, then click ‘Check my result’.
- Save or print a copy for your records.
Be careful with unofficial websites that ask for your exam details or payment. Only use the official portal.
A note for anyone going through admission: JAMB said on Monday, 28 September, that its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) “has been fully restored and is now operational”, BusinessDay reported. JAMB had said on 24 September that the portal was unavailable because of technical problems with its hosting arrangements.
The board has urged institutions to speed up admissions to make up for lost time. It reaffirmed its deadlines of 31 October for public universities, 30 November for private universities and 31 December for other tertiary institutions, BusinessDay and Daily Trust reported. JAMB also asked candidates to accept admission offers promptly and to upload or verify their 2026 NECO results so institutions can consider them, Channels Television reported.
What next: Keep a copy of your result, follow your institution’s instructions on O’level verification, and upload or verify your NECO result on CAPS as JAMB has asked. Log in regularly to accept or reject any admission offer: public universities must complete their 2026 admissions by 31 October.
