  • The festival moves from its recent July slot to June for 2027

Afro Nation Portugal has named the first headliners for its 2027 edition, and Nigeria is front and centre again. Davido and Rema will top the bill with Congolese star Fally Ipupa when the festival returns to Praia da Rocha beach in Portimão, on Portugal’s Algarve coast, from 9 to 11 June 2027.

The lineup was announced on Wednesday, 23 September. Organisers have also confirmed an opening party on 8 June and a closing party on 12 June. It will be the seventh edition of a festival that launched in Portimão in 2019, and it comes with a change of timing: recent editions have been held in July, so the 2027 dates arrive roughly a month earlier, at the very start of the European summer.

Who else is on the bill

Alongside the headliners, the main Lit Stage features Omah Lay, Victony, Odeal, Shenseea, Valiant, Bamby and Miimii KDS. Amapiano lovers get their own space on the Piano People stage, led by Kabza De Small, TxC and Dlala Thukzin, while the Afrotronic stage includes Caiiro, Djeff, Jamiie, Aniko and JNR SA. More names are expected in later announcements.

Organisers billed the three headliners as “three giants of African music”, and both Nigerians know this stage well. Rema headlined Afro Nation Portugal in 2024, Davido has topped the bill there before, and Nigerian acts have been a fixture of the lineup since the very first edition.

The booking caps a big year for Davido. He released his sixth studio album, Oriadé, on 31 July and has since announced Oriadé: The Residency, three nights at the National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, from 17 to 19 December, to mark 15 years in music.

For Nigerian fans planning a trip, it is worth noting that the event is strictly for over-18s.

What next: Tickets are sold through Afro Nation’s official website, where presale and general sale details are posted. Further lineup announcements are expected in the coming months.
