Apple has changed how Nigerians get Apple TV. The streaming service, home to shows such as Severance and Ted Lasso, now comes bundled with every paid iCloud+ plan in the country, together with the Apple Arcade games service. Apple announced the change on 15 September as part of an iCloud+ expansion covering more than 100 countries, with the rollout running to the end of September.
What it costs
- 50GB: ₦1,300 a month
- 200GB: ₦4,500 a month
- 2TB: ₦14,900 a month
- 6TB: ₦39,900 a month
- 12TB: ₦66,900 a month
Every paid tier includes Apple TV, more than 200 Apple Arcade games and Apple Music Select, a set of curated, ad-free radio-style stations, as well as iCloud storage and privacy features. A single plan can be shared with up to five family members. The free 5GB iCloud tier does not include the new services.
There is one big change for current users: Apple TV and Apple Arcade are no longer sold as standalone subscriptions in Nigeria, so existing subscribers are being moved over to iCloud+. Apple says their access continues without a break.
Apple’s services chief, Eddy Cue, said the expansion lets users “enjoy the absolute best in original storytelling”.
On price, the entry plan sits well below Netflix’s cheapest Nigerian plan of ₦2,500 a month, although the two are not like for like. Apple’s library is smaller and built around its own originals, while Netflix offers a much broader catalogue. For iPhone users who already pay for extra storage, though, the sums are simple: the streaming now comes along with the gigabytes.
What next: If you already pay for iCloud+ storage, check your Apple account settings. Apple TV and Apple Arcade should appear as the rollout completes by the end of September.
