New on Netflix Naija this week: Keri Russell’s The Diplomat returns on Thursday, 15 October, at the top of a week that also brings a South African rom-com sequel, a Mike Tyson docuseries and a Nollywood birthday drama on DStv.

Ten titles made our list. Two of them are African productions, and one is the Nigerian movie that topped the Netflix Nigeria movie chart on Monday, 12 October.

There is one name missing. Showmax shut down on 30 April 2026, so the African originals people once went there for now sit on DStv channels and DStv Stream. Every pick below says where it actually streams, and where we could not confirm Nigerian availability, we say so.

What happened to Showmax?

Showmax closed on 30 April 2026. Canal+, which now owns MultiChoice, announced in March that the service would be discontinued after a review, and MultiChoice told subscribers that renewals stopped working on 1 April, according to News24. Its shows moved to a Showmax section inside DStv Stream, with Showmax Originals going to DStv Compact and Premium customers, and Canal+ plans its own streaming app later.

For Nigerian viewers that means two places to look for new African TV now: Netflix, and Africa Magic on DStv and GOtv. That is why Pushing 30 is on this list as a TV premiere rather than a streaming drop.

What are Nigerians already watching on Netflix?

Oversabi Aunty led the Netflix Nigeria movie chart on Monday, 12 October, ahead of Ben Affleck’s Animals and Tyler Perry’s Doing Life, according to FlixPatrol’s daily tracker. The Canadian creature series Below was the No 1 show, with East of Eden, last week’s top pick, at No 4.

That puts a Nollywood comedy that opened in Nigerian cinemas last December ahead of Animals, a new Netflix thriller from one of Hollywood’s biggest names that arrived on 9 October.
